Oil Paintings - Alla Prima

These are a couple of "alla prima" studies I did last year in oil; alla prima is an oil painting technique where you don't work in "layers", as I did in other paintings, I used to paint a layer of paint, let it dry for like two days, and then painted another layer, and so on... the alla prima technique consists on painting "wet on wet" that is, using the paint directly as it comes out of the tube or mixed with medium, on just one session, generally a short one, no more than 3 hours or so, it's a very interesting technique and quite fun to do, in my case, I put a limitation of two hours to make a portrait, and this is what came out:

"Portrait of Shirley Manson ("Garbage" singer)" 8" x 10", oil on board.

Photos of the process, each one taken 30 seconds apart.

This is another one, this time a self-portrait, also in oil on board made in 2 hours, I painted it looking at myself in a mirror.
